Pianist Chen Jie to shock the stage of NY by Four Seasons of China

At the age of 26 Chen founded the Music Department at the University of Shanghai Science and Technology where she is currently the Director. 32-year-old Chen is no stranger to awards, “Top 30 under 30” awarded by the KDFC Radio Los Angeles, “Ambassador for Arts and Education” awarded by the Shanghai International Arts Festival, “Top 10 Pianist in China” and “Culture Leader” by City of Shanghai.

Most pianists grow on trees and aren’t that hard to come by, but every now and then you’ll come across a rare fruit that leaves you in wonder. It can be said that Chen is that rare fruit. Her grace and stark beauty are noticeable to even Stevie Wonder, but it’s her very unique choice of music and playing style that makes stand out the most.

Being she splits time living in both Shanghai and New York City, Chen made a name for herself by playing western music but with an eastern touch.

Chen will regale you with the music of Schubert and Chinese composers on Wednesday, Simply called the “Cycle,” the program will consist of a meticulously selected repertoire by Chen that seeks to reflect the cycle of life and cycle of time. Her program four seasons of China includes, Spring: “Moonlight by the Spring River,” Summer: “Song of the Phoenix,” Fall: “Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake,” Winter: “Three Stanzas of Plum-blossoms.”

The limitless possibilities of it. It’s the one single instrument that has the biggest range of sounds and color, and can imitate so many different kind of instruments, your only limitation is your imagination and ability,” said Chen enthusiastically.
